A170 VAS Linkfoot Lane
In 2021 two solar Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS) were put up in Helmsley, on the A170 Linkfoot Lane and the B1257 Stokesley Road. Both VAS will operate in either direction. They have been put up with the agreement of North Yorkshire Council who determine their location in relation to junctions, road signs and speed limits, their 'features', i.e. the wording and speed limit, currently images and vehicle speed are not allowed, and the time allowed 'on' in any direction. The VAS should either be turned around after 12 weeks or turned off for at least two weeks.
The data downloads as DAT files. Once the DAT file is imported into a pc a project is created in Houston Radar Stats Analyser Pro and the results published as a PDF or excel file when possible.
The VAS were paid for by Helmsley Town Council with the help of grants of £3,000 from the Police Commissioners AJ1 fund and £2,500 from the North Yorkshire County Councillor's Locality Budget. The town council's working group that recommended to the Council the type (solar, battery, size etc) and, with the help and guidance of NYCC Highways, location, had three members in 2021, Councillors Val Arnold and Tony Porter and a member of the public, Mr Chris Parkin.
