Limes trees leading to All Saints Church, Helmsley

All Saints Church' Churchyard is a 'closed' Churchyard and its general maintenance is the responsibility of the town council though much of the day to day maintenance is carried out by a keen group of Parochial Church Council Volunteers. The town council arranges for grass cutting, tree inspections and follow-up work, and memorial inspections.

Any uncut/wild areas are left at the request of the Parochial Church Council and from May 2023 two areas are to be left uncut and from September 2023 the gravestones and memorials will no longer have the grass cut around them for their preservation.

The town council is also responsible for the walls and the Lych Gate. A report was provided by Ferry & Mennim in 2023 and conservation work will be undertaken.

Ryedale Family History Group published Helmsley - Monumental Inscriptions which has a photograph of every memorial in the churchyard and old cemetery and as much of the inscription as could be read. All the memorials were mapped as well. It is available by CD, download, or book - the latter is text only.
